Exercise Channel Eagle started as one of those ‘wouldn’t it be good fun if.....’ type of conversations between Rob Healey and Sarah Buck who had met, by chance, at the Defence Medical Services Rehabilitation Centre (DMSRC), more commonly referred to as Headley Court, near Epsom, Surrey.

Believe it or not they were both there as part of a recovery from injury! They both went their separate ways - but the amoeba of an idea had formed. Both Sarah (Navy) and Rob (Army) went home to find the idea was met, not with ridicule, but with a thrilling amount of enthusiasm - and sooo......................here we are.

How did the RAF get involved? As luck would have it Sarah and Spike (RAF) were shortly to get married - 10 days after the Relay in fact! Both Sarah and Spike are very much involved in their own (Navy and RAF) Service swimming - with competition being fierce.

So, what we’ve ended up with is a unique and totally revolutionary Inter-Service competition never before tried at this level. Following the huge success of the relay and website, all three Services are now committed to Exercise Channel Eagle being a permanent fixture.

Each team had 6 swimmers, at least 2 of which had to be female
