It was also whilst he was in the Middle East that David also began to organise a triathletes swimming club with the help of his lovely wife Kerry, who has been a swimming teacher for 15 years. The Club (a slightly grand title) ran organised coaching for Muscat triathletes.

At 45, David is the oldest member of the Army team. Describing himself as more of a Triathlete than a swimmer, he has been competing at all triathlon distances since the event started in earnest more than 20 years ago.

During his previous posting in the Middle East (Sultanate of Oman) David was able to concentrate on longer distances and compete in a number of half Ironman events and a full Ironman in Malaysia.

Since returning from the Middle East at the end of 2004, all forms of exercise have taken a back seat and David would have thought you mad to suggest a Channel adventure! However, a chance meeting with Rob Healey has rekindled some enthusiasm for swimming and this has led to David’s surprise inclusion in the Army team.
