Simon Almond is 21 years old but with his birthday being the 24th June he’ll be 22 by the time of the race.
Simon’s job involves instructing on IOT (Initial Officer Training) so he’s certainly no stranger to grit and determination!
Being responsible for the fitness training of RAF trainee officers, Simon works hard to plan, deliver, monitor, evaluate and improve an extensive programme of physical activity for his ‘customers’. His job doesn’t just involve the practical side of physical fitness. Report writing takes up a fair amount of time and Simon also enjoys teaching the theory too.
Simon’s lifestyle takes two basic forms, the first of which is work - of course that bit’s compulsory, at least until Simon’s lottery win comes in!
Based at RAF Cranwell Simon is a Physical Training Instructor (PTI) in the RAF.
Simon feels himself lucky that his day-job involves physical activity because his spare time interests, surprisingly, are sport and training. Dedicated to keeping himself fit he is a keen runner and swimmer. He uses cycling and weight training to ensure he has a rounded level of fitness so is less likely to pick up injuries.
